Many of these species are still here today, the nearest populations be- ing hundreds of km away. Also found in Sw Portugal are many endemic species, i.e., those that are not found anywhere else in the world.<\/p>\n<p>Winters are short and are never very cold, but offer enough rain to fertilize the soil for the nine months when the sun is king. Lisbon Airport is ideal for getting to the northern part of the region and Faro Airport is ideal for the southern area. However the transportation options and the accessibility from Lisbon are more flexible and comprehensive. It is possible to fly to Lisbon and Faro from the major European capitals.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Madrid \u2013 Faro: 1h00<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>London \u2013 Faro: 2h30<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Berlim \u2013 Lisbon: 3h25<\/strong><br \/>\n<strong>Copenhagen \u2013 Lisbon: 3h45<\/strong>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_accordion_tab][vc_accordion_tab title=&#8221;By car&#8221; tab_id=&#8221;1669738949212-1-5&#8243;][vc_column_text]<strong>From Lisbon<\/strong><br \/>\nFrom Lisbon, take the A2\/A12 or IC1 in the direction \u201cSul\/Algarve\u201d. There are several alternatives, but none of them really compare in terms of distance or time of journey. Choose between:<\/p>\n<p><strong>Option 1<\/strong><br \/>\nAt km 104 of the A2 join the IP8 in the direction of Sines. On the IC1 in Gr\u00e2ndola, take the same turn off. Follow in the direction of Odemira and Porto Covo. This will be a good option for getting to Santiago do Cac\u00e9m, Sines, Porto Covo and Milfontes.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Option 2<\/strong><br \/>\nFrom the A2, take the exit \u201cBeja\/Ferreira\u201d, at around km 119 on the A2, joining the IC1, on the direction \u201cAlgarve\/Ourique\u201d. Once on the IC1, you have the option of turning off in the direction of \u201dSantiago do Cac\u00e9m\/Sines\u201d, taking the exit \u201cAlvalade \/ Cercal \/ Lagos\u201d, ideal if you want to go to Cercal, S. Lu\u00eds and Vila Nova de Milfontes, or exit \u201cOdemira \/ OESTE\u201d As you arrive in Odemira you will be on N120, which goes through all the places of the Sw through which the Rota Vicentina passes: Cercal, S. Lu\u00eds, Odemira, S. Teot\u00f3nio, Odeceixe, Aljezur, etc.<\/p>\n<p><strong>From Faro<\/strong><br \/>\nGo on the A22 or N125 as far as Lagos\/Bensafrim.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Aljezur\/Odeceixe<\/strong><br \/>\nAt the turning for Lagos\/Bensafrim, join the N120 with links to Aljezur, Odeceixe, S. Teot\u00f3nio, Odemira, S. Lu\u00eds, Cercal and Santiago do Cac\u00e9m. In Odemira take the turn off at Portas de Transval \u2013 towards Almogarve, Vila Nova de Milfontes and Porto Covo.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Sagres\/Vila do Bispo\/Carrapateira<\/strong><br \/>\nFrom Lagos continue on the N125 as far as Vila do Bispo, from where you can head south towards Sagres and Cape St. Vincent, or northwards, towards Bordeira, Carrapateira and Aljezur.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Some Distances<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Lisbon \u2013 Sines: 165 km<\/li>\n<li>Lisbon \u2013 Odemira: 202 km<\/li>\n<li>Porto \u2013 Odemira: 478 km<\/li>\n<li>Faro \u2013 Odemira: 149 km<\/li>\n<li>Lisbon \u2013 Aljezur: 244 km<\/li>\n<li>Faro \u2013 Aljezur: 108 km<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>[\/vc_column_text][\/vc_accordion_tab][vc_accordion_tab title=&#8221;By train&#8221; tab_id=&#8221;1669739298693-2-4&#8243;][vc_column_text]This is the most environmentally friendly, efficient and comfortable way to arrive in the Southwest; however, it will take you a bit away from the coast.
